Band of Poets @ Greenbank Farm

Saturday, August 16 2008 7:00 pm

Band of Poets creates new space, plays instruments in ways unexpected, speaks words in many combinations.

BOP is:

John Burgess, a punk poet of sorts, stands up with words among ballads, blues, country & more sounds. Check out Pointer from John's A History of Guns in the Family:
What evidence remains. Empty bucket. Empty pint.
Jed Myers also beats just like a poet/musician. He writes stupendous stuff like 3-5 guitar blues and deep bass jazz-me rhythms. Like, from this recently published poem: After the Future:
on the ground, just colorless walls.
We dripped green puddles in the halls
David Rizzi on the drum set to trance you w/ his Hendrix Band of Gypsies clatter when he does not play jazz as instructed. Also, he offers a poem or two. From Self -serve your own war:
Fill two million coke bottles, sell them at a fair
File a lawsuit for clean air in your spare bedroom
Put an Automatic Rifle in your hand
Plus special guest Debra McElroy, author of Old Moon. From her poem Seen:
I saw her / panic in the sun
in the warmth / in the calm
when he smiled
