2007 WPA Annual Poetry Contest

The Washington Poets Association announces its 2007 Annual Poetry Contest

Four categories to enter:

  • Submission period is January 1, 2007-March 15, 2007 and submission is only by first-class mail to the address on the entry form. (Email submissions will NOT be accepted.)
  • Open to all poets (except current WPA board members) who are at least 18 years old.
  • Previously published poems, poems that have won awards, and poems awarded money from any previous WPA contest are NOT eligible.
  • Entry fee is $5, with an additional fee of $1 for each poem entered, regardless of category.
  • Preparation of the poems:
    • Submit two (2) copies of each poem with your name in the upper right corner on one copy only.
    • Below your name, write the name of the category.
    • If submitting to the Aden category, under the category write the name of the form you used.
    • Submit only one poem per page; there is a 50-line maximum limit to any poem you submit.
    • If the majority of the poem is in a language other than English, provide an English translation.
    • Keep copies of all poems you enter as none will be returned.
  • Send an SASE (#10 envelope) for notification and a stamped, addressed postcard if you want word your entry arrived.
  • No poet may win more than one cash prize in any single category.
  • Winning entries will be published in the new WPA journal, Cascade, and Washington Poets Association reserves the right to publish all winners and honorable mentions in future anthologies, newsletters, and on the website.
  • A special awards event will recognize the winners who will read their award-winning work.
